Pico-8 be epic


Yo!

So I got this thing called pico-8, and its pretty cool.  Pico-8 is a fantasy console, that makes use of well designed constraints to keep games focused.  That's at least how I saw it.  With Nosleep I had to try to fit as much as I could into the Pico-8's limited video memory.  The limited space kept me from adding features and instead focusing on what I needed.  You can see the memory bellow (only 64 sprites available with maxed out map data)

I like to know exactly how things operate, so I found it actually quite refreshing to use pico-8's heavily code dependent development process.  This meant that object information had to be stored in arrays and there was no built-in way of addressing rooms.  This created a very smooth coding process, no under the hood mysteries that I had to mess around with to get the game running.  If something was wrong in the code it was my fualt and the problem was usually easy to find.  (unlike in GM1.4 with stupid cluckly file handling system)
